Minimise Composites

Composites are materials that have been mixed together to achieve a particular blend of properties. This can be beneficial in certain applications such as weight saving in vehicles, but in many other applications are unnecessary and could be replaced by simpler materials.

Pros: Increased ease of recycling and reduced use of toxic materials
Cons: In some applications, removal of composites would reduce efficiency and therefore increase energy consumption
Pros: Composites are often expensive, both in material costs and manufacturing. Substitution could save money.
Cons: If products do not offer necessary performance, they will not sell well.
Pros: Reduced use of toxic materials such as resins reduces health risks for manufacturing staff
Cons: Reduced performance of products
