Plan for Continual Improvement
Technology is constantly changing and improving, and so while extending product durability is theoretically a good thing, it can result in inefficient, outdated products continuing to operate for longer than is efficient to do so. Designers should therefore design energy consuming products to be upgradable to the latest technology. For example, or might be possible to upgrade a fridge/freezer to use new refrigeration technology without replacing the body of the product.
